Bianca Cheah's 3 secrets to a healthy smile

The simple hacks that keep her pearly whites and gums in tip-top condition.

Did you know that white teeth and pink gums can be a good indication that you’re healthy? Yes, that’s right, when it comes to your teeth, you really are what you eat. They say your eyes are the window to your soul. And I say your teeth are the curtains to a healthy body.

From a young age, I have always looked after my teeth. After all, you’re only given one set and it goes without saying, if you have a great set of chompers, you’re going to want to show off your big smile more often than not. But I’m the first to admit that I have a particularly dangerous sweet tooth… I swear those jelly babies are calling my name! When it comes to ice cream though, I’ve always stayed away as I have super sensitive teeth. As a matter of fact, when anything cold hits my front teeth my face screws up like a little pug (yes, really!) and my nerves start screaming. If you’ve ever felt an ice-cream headache, you’ll know what I mean. 50% of Australians have sensitive teeth but most people ignore the symptoms and just accept the pain. Crazy! I’ve always made caring for my sensitive teeth a priority.

My top 3 tips for a healthy smile

I set aside 5 mins every morning and night to brush and floss my teeth

Sensodyne2Without fail, I brush and floss my teeth every morning and every night. And the key is the technique and time. My husband banters on about me taking five minutes to do such a simple task, but I think it’s worth every minute.

I love giving my teeth (and gums) a proper floss and I brush twice daily with my Sensodyne True White Toothpaste, which relieves the pain associated with my sensitive teeth while keeping my teeth clean (I love a multi-tasker). I’m proud of my teeth and want to care for them as much as I can.

I rinse my mouth out with water as much as I can

I always drink water after everything that goes in my mouth. I know you’re probably thinking, yeah, yeah I always drink water. But, think of it like this…water is a natural mouth wash. Picture sipping on a glass of red wine. What do you think the red wine does? It will eventually stain the teeth. But sipping on water whilst you’re drinking wine or even flushing your mouth out post glass of wine will help to break the wine down in your mouth so minimal staining occurs. Think of this with everything you pop in your mouth. Even with food!

I always use a hydrating lip balm

If you look in my day-to-day handbag, you’ll find about five or so varieties of lip balms. I can’t leave the house without them. Having hydrated and glowing lips make’s my smile bigger because my lips can stretch way more than normal, but glossy and plump lips also scream a picture of glowing health. Plus, balms with a reddish tint not only add a touch of glamour to my look they also make my teeth look whiter…and who doesn’t want that!
So, although these aren’t ground breaking discoveries, they have worked for me and I swear by them daily.
